In this year of the Olympics, the weather gods have found it fitting to get in on the action. Unfortunately, we are on the wrong end of the record setting. While the people of Ohio enjoyed one of their warmest winters on record, British folks earned a gold medal for their wettest April on record. How many years have they actually been record keeping, you ask? 245 YEARS. That’s right…England hasn’t seen this much rain in one month since 1767. America wasn’t even a country in that year. While (or “whilst”, as they say here) 2012 is a magical year to be in England…the Queen will celebrate her Jubilee (60 years of reign) and London is hosting the Olympics…there is certainly nothing magical about the rain that doesn’t seem to end. At least it’s warm though, right? Oh no. It’s a chilly 54F outside. I’d be better off in Siberia today where it’s a pleasant 63F.
Here are a few more interesting English weather facts:
*Consumer spending in April suffered one of the largest monthly falls since the height of the financial crisis in early 2009.
*Umbrella sales at local retailer John Lewis were up 5,000 percent. Glad someone is benefitting from this.
*April 2012 was the coldest April since 1989.
*Strangely enough, we in the midlands section of the UK are also in a drought.
